How about give people a choice.

Plastic is actually not bad at all. Dumping it in the fucking ocean is bad.

If banning plastic straws is okay because criminals and dysfunctional governments dump it in the water, then one could say something similar about birth control pills, which also end up dumped into the water and poisoning the entire fucking water supply.
Government and most people are too stupid to not dump. This nips the problem at the source. This is an appropriate use of government power IMHO - I'm convinced most people are too stupid and greedy for liberty and I don't want such proles ruining the oceans.

Good luck trying to prosecute people for dumping straws - sure the DNC will find a way to make such a law racial disparaging...

And we're talking about plastic straws - not a ban on soda....

you're opposition is based on the fact that the free market should decide if plastic straws are harmful or not - what do you think most proles will choose?
Now substitute the word straws with the word guns.
Different magnitude of government power...we're talking straws not guns....and yes - most people are too fucking stupid to own weapons....but the risk of a disarmed population outweighs the risk of stupid proles with guns.

My point was that the argument is equally as invalid, not that plastic straw dumping and gun crime are of equal magnitude.

The problem you are trying to address is not really people using straws at restaurants or home. It's because waste corporations are dumping huge quantities of garbage into the ocean. Trying to ban straws does not tackle the problem at all and, like the envirofag in the OP article said: it's not even that big of a deal.

So are you willing to go to war with the terd world and the PRC to stop the destruction of the oceans?

IMHO - at some point, the West will need to strong arm the rest of the world to protect our own interest in not having a fucked up planet.

Are you willing to admit that banning plastic straws in America is going to do fuck all about the PRC dumping garbage into the ocean?

I will admit that - but banning plastic straws IMHO is not a bad policy, nor an over-each of government power considering that I see may plastic straws and other plastic shit when on the Rivers in the Northeast. The PRC did not put those there.

The left should be overjoyed that the Donald is tariffing the PRC now before they become weened off US $$$$$.....there's no culture of environmentalism in Communism like there is in the West. The PRC needs to be destroyed now...before we loose the ability to keep them in check. They will ruin the world if left to their own devices - the rulers believe they can escape pollution via $$$$$.....

There's still a chance for disposable plastic rainbow dildos.

We really need to ban dildos and birth control pills. For the environment.

Plastic straws...plastic fucking straws. Our ancestors got moonshine and cuban cigars, and we get plastic straws.
