I was not enthralled with Bourdain, didn't watch that many episodes, but one really caught my attention.

Being Creative and Crazy is not new to the world. Many artists, if not most have their minds on wild shit most of their lives. So, Bourdain's mental illness is not schocking, drug addiction and Liberal Politics is pretty much to be expected.
What a gorgeous knife.
I want one.
Shame that most chefs could never afford one.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

He did many times. Check out his episodes in Rio and the Middle East. He also ate raw buffalo guts in Africa.

Spew your ignorance somewhere else.
What did he do many times? I think you misread.
Going to ghettos at night. That was kind of his thing, in the third world. He’d seek out street food, and get people to invite him home for dinners etc.

Yes, it’s not something that I would ever attempt, but I got to see a lot of brilliant cooking, and see the cultures of the world - the real ones, away from the tourist shit.
You think CNN let him and a crew of employees go anywhere without a private security team in tow? You are a fucking child.
If didn't happen on camera it didn't happen at all.

Afford one? Brits don’t even like people owning knives.
So dangerous.

It’s clear that he never watched the show, or understands what Bourdain was doing. He was never “elitist” in even the vaguest sense of the term. He was working-class eyes on the world - both the top and the bottom of it.

He dined in the finest, most exclusive restaurants on earth, and are raw buffalo guts with tribesmen in Africa. He didn’t ‘assume’ anything of the viewer, except that they were mostly American.
Never mind. You're not understanding the point. I was merely asking what you meant when you told KY that Bourdain did that many times. I don't know what you were referring to. I'm over it.

You think I'm unaware that he had security around him? What point does that make, exactly? Check out his episodes in Libya & Syria - it's all about his security team trying to keep him alive. He got evacuated on a USN destroyer.

As I said, it's not something that I'd ever attempt, but he was able to bring me those places.

It's in the first 2 sentences of my post. I'm not sure how you're missing it.

OH, is that what he meant? He went without security to those ghettos? OMFG.... yeah, now his statement "he did that many times," makes sense. SF - OMG, Bourdain went nowhere without security.

Never claimed otherwise. I'm kind of stunned that that strawman is still standing...

Let's review the first two sentences of that post and see if your comment makes sense.

Seemed like a very likable guy, but he was nothing more than the typical limousine liberal.

His whole show was based on the assumption you had the money and time available to explore our beautiful world. Plus, he is a celebrity. No everyday citizen would be treated the same as someone walking around with a camera crew.

I'd like to see someone go to the ghettos of the world at night and tell us again how wonderful everyone is.
sentence 1: He did many times. Sentence 2: Check out his episodes in Rio and the Middle East.
Again. What did he do MANY TIMES?

I never said it was 'without security', or that I would try to do it myself. I appreciate that he was able to, and brought me so many wonderful images of the world.

Perhaps if we try reading what was actually said, and not layering in a sub-conversation in our heads, we'll get along better.
