I mean.. How much wheat did you produce last year?

I never heard of anybody' "wheat garden".

I produced about half a gallon of it. It taught me quite a bit about soil testing, nutrients, and the process. The experiment succeeded, but that was just something to try while I didn’t have time to actually garden. I also grew winter wheat as an excellent cover crop over the winter, to fertilize my soil.

I’ve got dozens of pepper, tomato plants, squash, melon, corn, beans, cabbage, berries, potatoes, and more going this year. Expected yield is a few hundred pounds of organic produce.

Yeah, I think you are farming, but it's very low yield right now.

Had you considered just purchasing additional piece of land out in the country you can drive to on the weekend to farm it?

I have thought about doing something like that. My condo value went up a lot as this whole area is developing pretty fast. I could sell it and buy another condo, but with the additional money just purchase land somewhere I can use to grow food.

Our last house was in HOA-ville and we were prohibited from having a garden of any kind - not even a tomato plant in a container was allowed. It's crazy how people want to ensure they are completely dependent on others for their existence.

Crazy - I have a friend who put a screen on her front door, so she could get cross-breeze in the winter. She was forced to remove it or pay a monthly fine.

I’m all about getting to somewhere more rural, when I’m able. This is honestly as much as I could imagine anyone handling though, without a small tractor.

The best term for it is probably “homesteading”, even though I’m nowhere near the frontier.

My recommendation for you would be to sell and buy an old farmhouse that you can renovate at your own pace. Start with a small herb garden, and expand each year as you get more comfortable.

I've been told you should let dandelion bloom and then do whatever controls you want after. Dandelions are early food for bees coming out of hibernation, while other plants are developing. Anyone heard of that ?

I grow actual dandelions. And when I say I grow them, I should clarify that it doesn’t actually take much cultivation on my part.
