Well, you can probably puzzle it out for yourself if you think about lt. Were Amazon and related businesses the culprits that drove capable but unfortunate Native Seattlelites to the streets, said Seattlelites would make up more than 31% of the homeless in Seattle.

Instead, the vast majority of Seattle homeless (69%) weren’t born there. They moved in from elsewhere, mostly other Washington counties, rather than staying in their home communities. Over ten percent of them came directly from other states.

What do you suppose incentivized the 69% of non-native Seattle homeless to go specifically to Seattle?
Well the Peugeot Sound area spends 1 billion on homelessness. That's a pretty big area.

I imagine you have homeless in your area, and there are homeless for sure in Bremerton. Pick your spot I guess. Why you'd go to Seattle though, I dunno. Seems to be more crime there. I'd stay the fuck out of Tacoma though.

You see that movement for backyard renting spaces though? People are renting their back yards out for tent spots, saying the renters can use their bathrooms and stuff. Think they're charging like $500? I'll have to find one of the ads I saw.

Apex stupidity would be arguing that the 1300 transplanted homeless out of the 2.117 million King County population meant homeless services were a) not working, or b) causing homeless to flock to the area.
From some residents of the Seattle Tent Mansion pitched on the sidewalk in front of the Space Needle:
... The encampment near Third Avenue and Broad Street has been dubbed the “Tent Mansion” by people passing by.

One of the people living there, Melissa Burns, said she and her boyfriend came to Seattle from West Virginia because “we appreciate Seattle's liberal vibe.”

Burns and her boyfriend were previously contacted by Seattle’s Navigation Team -- a group of outreach workers teamed with specially trained Seattle police -- last month when they lived a block away.

"We don't want to change our lifestyle to fit their requirements," she said . . .

Oh shit, HM - more facts refuting your feelings. Better go back to arguing from what "you don't know".

Yep. That is two of the still insignificant 1300 portion of the population.

Oh shit. You don't have any facts at all. Just an anecdote about two homeless people in Seattle that you want to gripe about.

And the goose? Still fine, and still in Seattle.

Seattle has its critics. You’ve probably heard some fed-up folks grumbling about leaving the city — and now some businesses, too, in the fallout from our controversial new head tax on large companies.

But say what you will about Seattle, you can’t say that people don’t want to live here.

The U.S. Census Bureau released new population figures for U.S. cities on Thursday, and they show that Seattle has toppled Austin, Texas, to become the nation’s fastest-growing big city this decade.

Seattle moved into the top spot after registering yet another year of remarkable growth in 2017. The city’s population hit an estimated 725,000, gaining 17,500 people from July 1, 2016, to July 1, 2017. Our growth rate in that period — 2.5 percent — was second only to Atlanta among the 50 largest U.S. cities.

Seattle has now been ranked in the top 4 for growth among major cities for five consecutive years — quite an impressive run.

Add up all the population gains since 2010 and Seattle has grown by a staggering 18.7 percent, which ranks as the fastest rate of growth among the 50 largest U.S. cities. The Texas capital, which has seen growth cool down a bit recently, falls to second place.

It says they came for the good vibes. Not homeless services. Groovy. Maybe good vibes is why big business loves the PNW too.

We have 10k+ homeless and I mentioned 13% we’re out of staters, and Jedi and I have been discussing 69% of them not being Seattle natives ... but I don’t “have any facts at all”.

Not that facts have been a concern for you since you don’t bother to cite, learn, or consider any. All you need to know is whether or not people can survive having their money taken, right? Sounds like a charming existence.

The numbers I'm seeing says this:

Image

At least according to my math, 70.1% came from King County.

14.9% came from out of state/out of country.

By most metrics, most of Seattle's homeless are locals, if we're defining locals as those who were living there when they became homeless.

As for natives, shit most of us aren't natives, if you're defining native as "those who were born here" as in "Have lived here all of their life."

I don’t need to define “native” since the word has a definition all ready. You can pretend you don’t know that meaning if you like, doesn’t really matter. The fact remains only 31% of the homeless in Seattle are Native Seattlelites. If the rest of King County, which is big, and contains several cities, largely migrates to Seattle to be homeless there’s probably an incentive for that behavior, eh?

It’s almost like you recently discovered that progressives love to deny their programs attract the homeless, because you and JD had no problem accepting that truth earlier in the thread. Go through a reprogramming session or something?

Such a weasel way to go about things.

"Oh, you've lived here 30 years? Moved here when you were 20 and you're now 50? Yeah you're not a native."

That distinction of "native" means nothing then. Who cares if they were born here?

You're telling me a person who has lived here for 30 years and is made homeless doesn't count in your metric because, oh well he wasn't born here? That's just silly, and it's pure sophistry.

The fact is we don’t know if they “lived” in Seattle 30 years or one week before going homeless. But we can infer that people who worked and provided shelter for themselves for three decades are MUCH less likely to be living in the street now than people who temporarily crashed a friend’s pad until they were eventually kicked out for mooching.

All we know is that they aren’t from Seattle, but they’re in Seattle and homeless now. A whopping 69% of our Seattle homeless started somewhere else before migrating to Seattle.

So have you figured out why they chose to be homeless in Seattle instead of Kent, Renton, Redmond, Bellevue, Auburn, Everett, Shoreline, Lynwood, Bothell, Kirkland, Everett, Covington, Burien, or one of the other cities or large towns in King County? There must be a reason.
