Sounds like a retard trying to pull a robbery.
"They can afford it," is literally how a thief thinks.

It’s only complex to people who have no solutions, but are confident that if they just take enough money from others the solution will organically occur.

Yet no matter how much money they take, the solution never appears. Which only convinces them that surely they haven’t taken enough money yet, so it’s time to try again.

When you point out that all they’re doing is ripping off citizens while solving nothing, they tell you the problem is “complex” ... then launch right back into taking more money, because maybe it’ll work this time. After all, complex problems are best tackled by “solutions” that have repeatedly produced zero or negative results.
It's complex because there are a lot of factors and forces at work here, and anything you do is going to have other consequences, some of which may be less than ideal.

You assert that Seattle hasn't solved anything - have you ever wondered what the state of these areas would be if they truly had done nothing at all for the past 10 years? I don't know personally, but if I were crafting a solution, I'd be curious about all the ins and outs and I'd want to know the best answers to questions like that.

Again, I don't think this is all the companies' faults, there are other factors, some of which I probably don't even know about. One issue I do know about that is contributing to the problem is that the whole world sees Bay Area (and probably Seattle) real estate as a great investment right now, so foreign buyers are coming in and buying tons of property, cash only. Most normal people -- heck most tech workers - can't compete with that. What do you do about that?

All I do know is that in the end it is a problem that needs fixing and I doubt anyone can do it without help from other sides. I'll agree with Kath that government needs to make sure they aren't slowing down the construction of new housing, but encouraging it. But there is very limited space here, so that will also involve infill re-development.

Nothing you said there changes the fact that businesses owe you nothing for offering great jobs. You even changed your tune to “well, they want to help” after realizing how ridiculous your obligation-assigning sounded.

They. Owe. You. Nothing. For. Creating. Great. Jobs.

And you have no solutions, as you’ve mentioned.
So why are you even inflicting your opinions on anyone?
If I had no solutions I certainly wouldn’t be trying to leverage money out of others for literally nothing. What kind of asshole does that?

I can’t fix what’s wrong, but it needs to be fixed so you owe me $275 per employee

Sounds like a retard trying to pull a robbery.
No, I'm saying that *they* seem to realize that they owe their communities something, if only for self interest. It's not helping people they have no connection to. It's helping their own workers and the people those workers employ. I'd also point out that creating great jobs is not ALL they do. They also put stress on community services such as roads, first responders, hospitals, stormdrain systems, central utilities, planning and public works departments, public schools, water treatment, and the environment, and that impact is as large as their footprint.

The talk around here has been, what should we do preemptively so that we have more control over what we end up HAVING to do than Amazon did in Seattle. Not whether they have any obligation to their communities, period.

When will you solve the beachfront property crisis, ooky? For Centuries there have been too few beach houses to supply the considerable demand. The beach house shortage has kept literally millions of people from their dreams of living on the beach, simply because there’s no way they could possibly afford a beach house on their middle class income.

When will you fix this? It’s super complex. There’s a lot of factors. Well, two factors really - supply and demand.

How much money will you have to take from others in order to solve the beach house crisis?

Because that’s exactly the same as all your bleeding heart homeless BS. Amazon owes us low rent and cheap houses? Well, California owes us all beach houses. So miracle me up a solution that defies the supply/demand curve with your Marxist pickpocket wand and let me know when your answer is ready to be graded.

Climate change and sea level rise should do that for us! All current beachfront will be destroyed and the new coastlines will be much longer. LOL. By the way, another very expensive thing these companies benefit from that is provided by the government - sea level rise protection.

What Seattle should do differently is get out of the way. Government has a hard time with the simple stuff; creating solutions to complex issues is like putting a Lobster in charge of the Science Dept.

All government needs to do is get out of the way.

Seriously though, I don't know for sure how it is in Seattle, I don't think you guys are actually as bad as we are - it's more spread out there. But here, we are at real risk of of other companies not being able to pay normal workers, so eventually all we'll have are people who work for the Weyland or Tyrell corporations ;)

Unless you live in LA, our homelessness is worse:
https://www.statista.com/chart/6949/the ... ss-people/

What makes you think you can improve on a dispassionate, price-point driven resource allocation system? You leftist always want to get involved and redistribute earned rewards in portions more to your own liking, but you've never actually cited your authority to do so. We know without question that your methods are less efficient than a price point driven market. We also know that every inefficiency lowers the overall quality of life for everyone participating in an economy.

... so by what misguided authority do you feel comfortable meddling with the labor rewards system? And why does this same compulsion not drive you to redistribute NFL victories or the results of Olympic events until they are more to your liking? Why do you draw the line at taking the wealth of others and squandering it on your misguided schemes? Why not help yourself to all aspects of the lives of others, and redistribute accomplishments, wealth, illnesses, miseries, joys, and anything else you feel entitled to meddle with?
