Meanwhile, the democrat governor of solidly democratic (and solidly broke) California has decided to cancel their high speed rail... "too expensive, not worth it".

https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2019-02- ... il-project

"How expensive?"

"So expensive the tax-and-spend Democrats of Socialist California balked at the amount they were going to extort from citizens"

Process that for a moment. How big of a scam does something have to be, when even California Democrats are like "Fuck, that might be over the line".
Who even knew such a number existed.

Anyone pushing high speed rail outside of hyper densely populated areas like Japan or the Benelux is full of shit. Won't work.
You already have great long and medium distance transfer system. It's called flying.
If you want to do something about pollution you should look at every day commuting. Local trains, subway, streetcars and busses. Build it and they will come.
It's not as sexy but it works.

Let's not address any facts...………… I'm surprised I didn't get called racist for making the point that our rail bucks are better spent putting freight on rail, rather than people.

Another whining defeatist who doesn't believe America can achieve greatness through nationally implementing Democrat mass transit policies that have destroyed city government finances countless times.

Switzerland is about 1/3 the size of Illinois. There already exists a train route from Milwaukee to Chicago. Mission accomplished.
Mission barely started. A mass transit system means every town has a stop.
Switzerland has a population density about 5x that of the US.

This. Think of how much money we would have for trains if we didn't have to spend money securing the border.

I agree on high speed rail and mostly agree on the rest.

On Flying, it can be argued that flying for business is necessary and there is a return. However flying for vacation and entertainment should be stopped if we are that concerned about energy use and the environment. No buying carbon credits to get out of it either Davos Gang.

I believe subways and metro lines are used fairly well in many a metropolis. Keep that going.

We need to decentralize key industries and bring them back local to reduce freight costs and damage to roadways. Things like food production: gardens, milk, cheese, eggs. It would be a huge payoff.
