Totalitarianism

Democracy & liberty go well together but the marriage is flawed because it disallows polygamy. In a winner-take-all, second-place-is-the-first-loser democracy, huge swaths of people are left unrepresented, dissatisfied & resentful. This is not a fault of liberty, it is a fault of democracy. In this context, the word “Social Justice,” normally a term of subjectivity & a control-reversal strategy, does have meaning. For democracy to work, magnanimity must be a major component: the wants & needs of the “losers” must also be taken into account when the “winners” are making policy. In the past, this was called “compromise,” but the New Right: the Tea Partiers & anti-establishment Republicans have disavowed compromise; while the New Left: the Progressives & anti-establishment Democrats are sure they-know-better-than-you. Fascism is totalitarianism from The Right, while Socialism is totalitarianism from The Left.
