First, Israel was created by Britain in 1948, primarily due to insurgency by newly immigrant Jews against WWII British occupiers, forcing many native Palestinians out as refugees into surrounding countries. Israel then expanded its boundaries through force in a surprise 1967 war with its neighbors, intentionally attempted to sink the U.S.S. Liberty, a U.S. spy ship, to keep it from warning others, and Israel continues to expand into Palestinian territory through illegal settlements. In the U.N., Israel is universally condemned for its actions, and is only supported by the U.S., yet it makes threats when Palestine also tries to join the U.N.
What is stopping the "two state" solution? Why is Israel building illegal settlements on the West Bank? Why is Israel against Palestine joining the U.N. (So what if they use the World Court? Is the World Court biased against Israel?) Why don't these issues come up in public discourse?
If Israel wants peace with its neighbors, it will have to negotiate one. They can NOT use the U.S. as a “if you touch me my big brother will beat you up” threat! Thinking you are God’s chosen people and superior to everyone else always causes otherwise intelligent and admirable folks to act like aggressive, self-righteous fools.
