Took a week to soak in nature in the Queen Charlottes...
Also known as Haida Gwaii.
The Haida were basically indiginous vikings... raiding the west coast of North America taking slaves and living large off sea food...
They handily dealt with Russians, Americans and British and were getting rich off sea otter pelts mostly going to Chinese markets in the 1800s until sea otters went almost extinct and then the sea otter market burst and small pox ended the party.... really ended it... in about the 1860s.
Logging was the next gig - but that has slowed down a lot...
They are doing all right these days.... its been sleepy with COVID....
We had a good time.
And now one week until the princess starts grade 12... she's nervous.... as she ought to be.

Not sure what you mean there…
Anyways, there was a lawyer, in the group I booked us with, that worked the residential school files….
She tells me that the Haida conquered a previous people - the pre-Haida.
The Haida deny this. According to their official story - they arose out of the ocean.
I had one Haida “anthropologist” come at me pretty hard on this one,
Haida fundamentalism for the win.
Obviously if the Haida conquered an island, they took slaves….
And according to that logic, they are entitled to exactly nothing for what happened to them.
If we pay them out… they would have to pay their slaves out….
They still know who among them are descended from slaves.
