Was Space Force Really a New Idea?

Post by The Conservative » Sun May 23, 2021 1:07 pm

I was going through my Papa’s old stuff when he was one of the mucky-mucks over at MITRE.

There is some really interesting stuff... But one thing fell out of a binder of stuff I was moving to a more secure (reinforced) box.

It says Space Command.

I am trying to figure out more about this but all I'm getting is Space Force bullshit now.

I wonder if the military has had its eyes to the sky a lot earlier than we thought.

That's from the Air Force Space Command, created in 1982.

I seem to recall a ruse the Reagan Admin played on the Soviets. The Americans claimed they had all sorts of capabilities in space that they didn't have, to force the Soviets to spend money they didn't have to try and compete.

Which is about right, he had access and was in charge of projects inside MITRE and Hanscom Airforce Base around that time.

Space Command was spin off from the Air Force to create the Space Force. Similar to how the Air Force was spun off from the Army. So we've had the Space Force for a while already, it was just given a promotion into its own entity on par with the other branches of the military.

Still waiting for them to either merge coast guard into Navy, or build the Hexagon.
