The least thing we should all be surprised by is how effective propaganda is.
It is so powerful, that when used, it can confuse well educated people.
Look at what happened to Dan. He totally bought in to the Nuclear Hitler theory even tho, Trump went 100% out of his way to try to bring a peaceful resolution with NK. Trump rolled the dice big time on that get together and it doesn't even register as proof that Trump is not looking for wars.
He also totally discounts the lowest body count of American soldiers over the last 2 decades. Ignores his attempts to pull out troops from Af/Pk. Ignores the abuse of the IC against Trump.
I mean, he either was never the independent he claimed to be, or he totally succumbed to propaganda that did not reflect reality.
