WW1 is a Bigger Threat than COVID-19

Post by heydaralon » Mon Apr 06, 2020 12:24 pm

When you think about it the First World War killed more people than Corona ever did, and ever will, and there is no reason why the war of 1914 will stop anytime soon. Yet why do our politicians downplay the risk society faces from it? Millions of people died, and tens of thousands of Americans died from WW1. Yet we are not panic buying in fear of Verdun, when that battle alone created 400,000 French casualties. Ypres was also no joke. Dan Carlin has pointed out the fact that all these world wars were basically just war crimes. They were bad. Shells were going off, and people were scared. Rather than panic about Coronavirus, people should be more scared of WW1, because going by the numbers, you are far more likely to die from that. Why doesn't Congress pass a law saying it is illegal to dig trenches and lay in them with your Lee-Enfield rifle? Make a law against wearing doughboy helmets. These guns killed millions. Millions also starved. They need to put a travel ban including on shipping routes over the Atlantic ocean because of the Luisitania. People are dying from these conflicts, and if we don't say "enough is enough!" as a people, WW1 could end up killing us all.

My great grandfather was at Second Ypres

First use of gas

They handed out these redimentary gas masks which a Canadian military doctor had come up with

It was basically like a pad that you pissed on, then wrapped around your face

The ph in the piss broke the gas down

Then they counterattacked and retook the position

That was his first battle, he had just arrived at the Western Front

He fought in every battle from there to Mons on the last day of the war

Then died young in the Great Depression from respiratory illness, incited from inhaling gas in the war

At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we remember him
