Re: Beatles "Butcher Cover"
I've never been a Beatles guy. Too young I guess. I know enough about them to respect them, I know they revolutionized American music. But honestly don't know how.
What makes the Beatles great ?
What recommendations would you have for someone that wants to appreciate the Beatles ?
Where do I start ?

BTW, “Butcher Cover” wasn’t the name of this album, that’s just what it’s known for. The original butchered babies theme was censored so a paste cover was applied retroactively. A “peel” is one of the rare originals with the paste-over peeled off. That’s what this is, a partial peel.

What about The Beach Boys; do you consider them great? How about Elvis?

Re: Beatles "Butcher Cover"
The 1960s was a transitionary period much like today. Today’s upheaval of Intersectionality is intended to reverse control to the losers. That’s exactly what Boomers coming up in the 1960s did to previous generations. The Beatles were at the forefront of that movement: they started Metal, they started psychedelic, they started drugs, they started rejection of religion. One group started all of that. They were done by 1969.

There's one for you, nineteen for me
'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman
Should five per cent appear too small
Be thankful I don't take it all
'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah I'm the taxman
If you drive a car, I'll tax the street,
If you try to sit, I'll tax your seat.
If you get too cold I'll tax the heat,
If you take a walk, I'll tax your feet.
Don't ask me what I want it for
If you don't want to pay some more
'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman
Now my advice for those who die
Declare the pennies on your eyes
'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman
And you're working for no one but me.

Re: Beatles "Butcher Cover"
The Beatles were fundamental to everything we call popular music today. They did everything first, and they did it in an amazingly short time. If you go back and listen to their music you must be aware of when it was recorded. Everybody since then got their inspiration from them.
This was recorded in early 1969 and was released the same month that Black Sabbath gave their first live performance.
The American Beatlemania peaked around 1965. The Beatles did their stadium tour, the first ever, but could hardly be heard because of the audience noise. Why? Because the most powerful amps back then were 100 watts and only The Beatles got them. Vox had specially designed them for the tour. They didn't even have stage monitors and couldn't hear each other playing. Ringo kept pace by looking at Paul's bum.
To understand why they are so good you need to look at the time.
