I have now attended enough political meetings, watched enough videos, and read enough blogs to finally “get” what the discussion about mass transit is really about…
Like most things that don’t seem to make sense, the arguments for mass transit are nonsense. The REAL reason that there is a constituency for mass transit is the “poor people” industry. Poor people can’t afford cars, old people can’t drive, cars are unsafe, travel distinguishes class, and other subliminal motives. The folks who promote mass transit are the worst kind of hypocrites – they claim to be compassionate and caring but in reality they are selfish and disingenuous. It is about what they want – what’s good for their sense of well-being - logic be damned. It’s the same kind of base instinctual envy that promotes Marxist thinking, “from those according to their ability, to those according to their need.”
Stripped of self-righteous evangelical fervor, pro-mass transit arguments would soon collapse. Other solutions would solve the problems that mass transit is purported to solve. As a matter-of-fact, I do care that old people can’t drive, auto safety, poor people getting to work, and the use of mobility to enforce class distinctions – but let’s solve those problems as they really are, not under the guise of collectivist mendacity.
