I don't think that's proper policing.

No?
. . . Later in his shift, Rosario returned to Humes’ home and apologized. Humes said everything was cool, and the two spoke as if friends. Humes praised Rosario when police visited later that evening to take photos of his face, saying that the cop who’d beaten him up deserved a promotion . . .

This is just like that one time in Mayberry where Andy beat up a black kid.

"The Seventh Judicial Circuit on Monday got Supreme Court clearance to set up a court designed to help veterans instead of treating them as ordinary criminals."

That's odd.

I'm for equality before the law, being a veteran charged with a crime now qualifies you for special status?

Not sure about this.

And shouldn't cops be de-escalating confrontations instead of escalating them?

I get old-school rules, some people really wouldn't be talking shit if they'd ever gotten their ass kicked, and some folks really need an attitude adjustment, but it's like look, not really how a cop should act.

Should our cops not act professional? Or at least try to?

Without having any details, yeah, that sounds weird. Then again, it's not like the government doesn't have explicit bias. Federal government gives you extra points for being a veteran, disabled, or a minority. They award extra points in contract negotiations for women-owned and minority-owned businesses. So, it's not like the government doesn't already discriminate.

Sure, sure, that's one, overwhelmingly popular point of view. I thought this entire incident drew a fairly sharp distinction between how men handle shit among themselves (and have from time immemorial) and how women and/or society handles things. From a legal standpoint, the populace prefers a staggering amount of rules upon rules to govern who can do what, who can say what, blah, blah, blah, blah.

Man to man this shit was handled in 5 minutes. That's it. The issue came up, and then it was over. Man to man, there was nothing else to be said or done. The only reason things have dragged on this long is because "society" now wants to apply the library of rules to shit that has already been resolved. Outside parties pushing their agendas want their say, their 15 minutes of fame, their "voices" heard in this event that had nothing to do with them.

For instance:
Teresa Haley, president of the Springfield NAACP, says that she was reminded of Rodney King when she saw the video. “We want to see him prosecuted and convicted,” Haley said. “If he gets off on it, it sends a signal to others that they can get away with it as well. And create racial tensions in our community. … Not only did he harm this kid, it harmed our community.”

Set up a system run by other veterans. Veterans court would entail an ass kicking, corrective custody in a military detention barracks, and about six months of cleaning shit up off the streets. Recidivism would not be a problem.
