How long have they been directing things? Apparently, since WW2.
Just watched the Ken Burns Vietnam show, and learned that the OSS actually armed the precursor to the Viet Cong - same as Afghanistan, same as Iraq, same as Libya, same as Central America, same, same, same...
Not only that, but Ho Chi Minh wrote letters to both Wilson and Truman, asking for them to live up to their ideals and support Vietnamese independence from the French, that were stored by the CIA and never delivered.
That’s 50 years of war, directed by the same fools that are now monitoring all communications of American citizens.
And as soon as we learn about that, we’re suddenly fighting in the streets over social issues.
How much longer?

Nein.
Go back to Jackson.
Really, it goes back to Hamilton. But Jackson was the one who grew it into more than a perennial phenomenon.
The source of the deep state is the Constitution that created a federal government in the first place.

Correct. There is no American "deep state." There's just the "state." Continuous and uninterrupted service since 1787.

The State is one thing, but secret operations behind the backs of elected officials? Blocking communications from foreign leaders?Fife wrote: Mon Jul 02, 2018 9:25 am Correct. There is no American "deep state." There's just the "state." Continuous and uninterrupted service since 1787.

Re: The Deep State
All of this publicly known information and yet people still hold the three-letter-abbreviation institutions in high regard.
Admittedly their level of public support is at near lows IIRC, but there seemed to be a resurgence once their enemy was Donald Trump. Lots of leftys sided with the FBINSACIA for what I imagined was an enemy-of-my-enemy strategy, sort of the same reason I and many others are sympathetic to Donald Trump because of the enemy-of-my-enemy strategy. I guess leftys turned a blind eye to the IRS/NSA/CIA scandals through the Obama era and were surprised to find out that people supported Donald Trump instead of the "deep state."
I had high hopes that trust in these institutions and government in general would plummet as a result of Donald Trump leading the government, but I didn't expect the government to fight back against him and simultaneously gain support from the public.
The 2016 election continues to upend political norms and teach lessons to political observers

I don’t think most people are making that connection, or actually believe that Trump will do anything about the deep state.pineapplemike wrote: Mon Jul 02, 2018 9:54 am All of this publicly known information and yet people still hold the three-letter-abbreviation institutions in high regard.

Remember, the left was the only side that even cared about NSA spying. Snowden was a traitor to the right. The patriot act was also enacted by the right.
I’m starting to think that most of the current uproar is being pumped up to distract from the burning of the constitution.
