Jackie Chan Embodies the Generational Divide

Post by DBTrek » Tue May 01, 2018 8:10 am

Seldom does a story succinctly highlight a generational divide as well as this one about Jackie Chan's "homeless" gay daughter.
Jackie Chan's Estranged Gay Daughter Says She's Been Homeless for a Month Due to Homophobia
  • Jackie Chan’s estranged daughter and her partner claim they’ve been homeless and sleeping under a bridge “due to homophobic parents.”

Etta Ng, 18, and her girlfriend Andi Autumn posted a short video to YouTube last week claiming that they’ve run out of options because their friends and family have refused to offer them support. (Note - they have no agency themselves. It's the burden of their friends and family to help them)

We’ve been homeless for a month due to homophobic parents. We pretty much slept under a bridge, and other things,” Ng said. (Whose fault, again?)

“We’ve gone to the police, we’ve gone to the hospitals, the food banks, the LGBTQ community shelters and all of them just don’t give a s—,” she continued.(What were the police supposed to do?)

Autumn added, “We will have to be split up if we go to any kind of government facility.”

“We don’t know what to do at this point,” Ng continued. “We just want to let people know what’s going on because at this point it seems ridiculous that no one can help. I don’t understand.”

Ng is Chan’s daughter with former beauty queen Elaine Ng, with whom the actor had a relationship with while married to his current wife Joan Lin. The actor, who made $49 million last year according to Forbes, has not spoken publicly about his daughter but has acknowledged he had an affair.

Speaking to the website Coconuts, Elaine denounced her daughter’s claims, saying she needs to find a job. (There's that generational divide I'm talking about)

“I feel that if they have no money, they should go find work,” she said. “They shouldn’t film a clip telling others they are broke and who Etta’s father is. People all over the world work hard and don’t rely on someone else’s fame to get money.” (mic drop) . . .

Maybe I'm geezerly, but I really can't identify with this level of helplessness, nor utter lack of shame. It didn't occur to these two snowflakes, anywhere between having beds to sleeping under a bridge, to do something for themselves? There wasn't a second of hesitation where these two paused and asked themselves "Do we want to appear like helpless, digital beggars, for the rest of our lives" before they posted their sob story to the world?

I really don't relate to the thought process of the selfie generation at all.

I guess I'm a crusty old bastard too, because I'm equally as puzzled.

Meh, spoiled brats have always been spoiled brats. In the good old days you just went to the papers for a handout when Daddy cut you off.

Interesting how, when females get the typical male experience, the whole world has to do something. About 90% of the homeless are men, most of whom were destroyed by family courts, immigration, job offshoring deals, or probably some combination of the three. Nobody gives a shit. Two lesbian princesses have to sleep under a bridge and stop the fucking planet.

I couldn't see myself, or my siblings, doing anything like this. (of course we're all 50+)

I have no problem with helping out if say someone's house burned down and they lost everything, or flood/hurricane help, etc - things that were not self-inflicted, but I'm not inclined to help anyone who caused their own problems and is too lazy to get off their ass and do something about it themselves.
