Gender
Sex is determined by reproductive plumbing, but gender is how a person fits in socially, and it's determined by a single biological molecule: testosterone. That's what makes the gender discussion so volatile, because people who want to be a particular gender can take chemicals: to act like a man, shoot up with male levels of testosterone; to be a woman, take the drug that blocks testosterone, the ones prostate cancer patients use. That's why old men whose testosterone production ain't what it used to be seem effeminate. Those drug takers got a point when they say they are a gender that conflicts with their sex, but then there's the ones with inscrutable motivations; they claim to be another gender but they're NOT taking the drugs, possibly something to do with getting a wrestling scholarship on the female team.

Point of Interest:
Everyone knows females have an XX chromosome but males have XY. Most people have also seen a picture of a Y chromosome, and notice it's shorter than an X. Well, the upper part of the Y chromosome is similar to the upper part of the X chromosome but the missing lower part of the Y chromosome is where the testosterone inhibiting mechanism would be...
p.s. One of the huge holes in the theory of evolution: which came first, the X or the Y?

Re: Gender
Shit I read somewhere that many embryos begin female and then with heat or testosterone become male. It seems like female is the default state right. Im not well versed in any of this at all, but wouldnt that suggest the y came first?Martin Hash wrote:Point of Interest:
