Iran's parliament held a closed session on Sunday in which senior security officials briefed them on the protests and the conditions of the detainees, the agency reported.
"It was emphasised that foreign elements, and in particular the United States, played a basic role in forming and manipulating the recent unrest," IRNA quoted lawmaker Jalal Mirzaei as saying.

In this case, they probably have a point, though.

Here's a older story to compare with the "Russia!" stories:

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-russ ... 0S20111208
Prime Minister Vladimir Putin accused the United States on Thursday of stirring up protests against his 12-year rule and said foreign countries were spending hundreds of millions of dollars to influence Russian elections.

Much like the "Russia!Russia!Russia!" thing, it doesn't matter if Russia had an interest in supporting your candidate - you still wanted Trump to win, same as there are Iranians who'd want an end to the Islamic Republic, no matter if foreign powers also want the regime to fall - for their reasons. Propaganda can be highly efficient, no doubt at all, but there are - US/Western backed or no, a part of the people who want the ayatollahs to fall.Speaker to Animals wrote:In this case, they probably have a point, though.
However, with most middle eastern regimes, saying that the US - or better yet, Israel - is behind protests against whichever two bit dictator or despot's in charge of their shitty countries, has been the go-to explanation by those regimes for decades. You (Americans) really aren't at the center of all changes, or desire for changes, in the world, after all.

I think Russia's interest was less in supporting one candidate over the other than sowing general chaos. Same as they ever were.
They seemed to have provided Intel on both parties. They couldn't get any real dirt on Trump, so they helped Fusion (and thus the FBI) to fabricate allegations. It looks like the DNC server leaks were insiders, but it's entirely possible that they were behind leaking Podesta's gmail correspondences (though there still exists no proof and he fell for a simple phishing expedition a child could have conducted).
It's become patently clear that the Russians had access to Hillary's illegal email server, and if they actually wanted to destroy her, they needed only release the damning evidence about an hour after the Clinton crony FBI director publicly announced he would not pursue charges. But they did not.
The only tangible evidence we have that they got involved at all was on behalf of Hillary to help fabricate the fake dossier.
Their interest is more in political instability. The point where they actually take a side, I think, will come when the divide is almost completely between the cities and the rest of America.

Absolutely, so it would be interesting if someone actually hacked the pre-election-result Russian intel on the assessments of both Hillary and Donald as future presidents. Though I think that Russian intelligence services and embassies guard their secrets in more low-tech ways. And leaking and whistleblowers probably don't get off as light as American ones or Australian albinos. Those documents could have had some interesting ideas about how to undermine either of them. Syria has proven that even as a declining power, they outplayed the US in Syria.Speaker to Animals wrote:I think Russia's interest was less in supporting one candidate over the other than sowing general chaos. Maybe that would have been their play if Hillary got elected, then? Might have fit the sowing general chaos plan and undermined faith in the US government, abroad and at home. They seemed to have provided Intel on both parties. I love America god bless freedom wether it be here or there. If they don't want it, let's send our boys off to make them want it more. America always wins. When will people realize this is the best country on the earth? I'd import them all in a heartbeat if they just say they hate Hillary. Fuck yeah! Israel is our greatest ally next to Togo.
