Oregon: Pump Your Own Gas Crisis
This is the sort of stuff that really causes me concern.
In Oregon the nanny-staters have this racket where you can't pump your own gas.
Only "qualified professionals" are allowed to handle the dangerous task of refueling your automobile.
And that's fine, you know. States are supposed to be little democratic laboratories where bad ideas are tested out.
But when humans become absolutely dependent on the state for things like having their gas pumped, that scares me. The rapidity with which people become helpless, sniveling, useless little whine-bots is astounding. To illustrate the point, here's some trash from FB about Oregon possibly passing a law to allows rural residents to pump their own gas.
Check those comments out.

"No! Disabled, seniors, people with young children in the car need help. Not to mention getting out of your car with transients around and not feeling safe too. This is a very bad idea. Grrr"
"Not a good idea, there are lots of reason to have an attendant helping, one is they need a job too. Many people are not capable of knowing how to pump gas and the hazards of not doing it correctly. Besides I don't want to go to work smelling of gas when I get it on my hands or clothes. I agree Very bad idea."
"I don't even know HOW to pump gas and I am 62, native Oregonian.....I say NO THANKS! I don't want to smell like gasoline!"

Re: Oregon: Pump Your Own Gas Crisis
I was out there a couple times for work last year. It was one of the weird oddities of the PRP. In rural areas, I pumped my own. So, sounds like the law would seek to make legal what is happening already. But when you are in Red Square, anywhere near the undriveable pretzel streets, you will not pump your own gas.
I was told this was enacted in the late 70s or early 80s to help with unemployment.

In New Jersey too, no pumping your own gas.
Truly odd to me. I don't think I've ever had a person pump my gas for me and I've been driving since the mid-80's.
I'm loving the freak out, though. Good stuff. I hope this comment is satire, but it's hard to know.

I've lived in this state all my life and I REFUSE to pump my own gas. I had to do it once in California while visiting my brother and almost died doing it. This a service only qualified people should perform. I will literally park at the pump and wait until someone pumps my gas. I can't even
Account abandoned.

My grandfather lived in NJ, it used to amaze me that I'd drive down there and make sure to fill up before I came home to CT, not only was it full service but the gas was 20¢ cheaper even though they had to pay for the guy pumping.Kath wrote:In New Jersey too, no pumping your own gas.

It’s an employment thing. It makes me insane but people from here don’t want to pump their own gas.

That shit blew my mind when I visited Portland back in the 90s. I pulled up and started pumping my gas, and this dude lost his shit like I was taking food from his family's mouths.
I was driving a humpty back then. No way would I let some degenerate touch my Jeep today.
Really, I wish we could do away with most service jobs. I'd rather serve myself and not pay a tip.

Yeah, I saw this when I drove through Jersey. I pulled into a pump, and some guy told me to get back in my car
Weird experience.

It’s stuff like this that makes you start to think the Lochner Era was a good thing.
