Essential Classic Movies to Watch With The Kids

Post by SuburbanFarmer »

Besides the obvious - Star Wars, Rocky, and Neverending Story, what do you feel are essential movies to pass on to the younger generation?

Just watched Commando with the 10yo, and it’s probably his favorite movie ever. The cheese is rich enough for him to appreciate it, and the finale is just a parade of absurdity. We laughed our asses off.

Eventually, we’ll get to Predator, Alien, and Star Trek, but for now, trying to keep it light.

With a ten year old??

Go with Bells of Saint Mary, Miracle on 34th Street, To Kill a Mockingbird..

At most, maybe something like High Noon or Rio Bravo.

I was thinking that, but it’s a lot darker. Commando was more slapstick.

I was just kidding about John Waters earlier. Your kids shouldn't get anything like that or RHPS until they are about 17.

These may have already been mentioned in the thread, but when it comes to things that kids absolutely need, here goes:

Here are some more, off the top of my head and in no particular order, that I've enjoyed with my daughter (at appropriate ages) from back in the day. Who doesn't love old trailers?
