or
B) the thing that drives up the price of consumer products like iPhones is the wages of factory employees.

Regardless of his specific argument, the fundamental premise is self-evident: nothing in history created wealth and raised the poverty level like capitalism. I think capitalism is going to become a historical system due to its own success, not because I want some socialist system. Something else will come to replace it, but free markets are probably the way to go no matter what.

I think the arguments in the video are confused and misleading.

He argues that a bunch of "rich" westerners finger wagging and 'tut-tutting' the Chinese for not raising wages like we would in the west is misguided.
He argues that forcing a developing nation to adopt well developed, first world policies is insane and will kill their growth.

Those are his contentions, they are not argued well.

Korea, for instance, is doing well. Indonesia and Bangladesh? Clearly, there is low wage work leading to growth, and low wage work that don't.

Korea had tons of outside infrastructure and military investment (for obvious reasons), as well as strict laws against capital flight. If those policies count as 'capitalism,' then that term is being stretched so broadly that it is basically meaningless.

China has some very specific problems when it comes to labor that won't be solved by this fantasy 'stepping stone' logic. Acknowledging that is more than just finger wagging.
