How do you feel when you turn on TCM the featured movie is The Breakfast Club? Classic cinema at its finest. What happened to the movies they used to show? Pre-1960 stuff, John Wayne, the countless Westerns and war movies. I miss those shows. I miss the romance they displayed with a man and his country.
There's no romance now my friends. Everyone is cynical and distrusting, not just of the fundamental institutions with-in our society but also of their fellow citizens.
There is one moment when you can still get that nationalistic high. On a cool Friday evening, leaves swirling on the sidewalks, the orange glow of the sun giving way to a dark purple sky, in the stands of a high school football game, during the national anthem.
At that moment there is a sense of romance in the air. A togetherness you feel with those around you. People across the field whom you are about to physically compete against or fans from a different city you despise. You are all standing and facing the same flag for that brief moment. Republicans and Democrats, labor unionist and millionaires, at that moment everyone is playing for the same team. Then after the last bomb bursts in the air and proof that we all are still here for one another is reaffirmed we resort to our rowdy and combative behavior.
As fleeting as it is, it has worked so far, lets hope there's still enough there to keep that flag waving in the air.

It works until it doesn't.
There's still the 4th of July, though.
I don't personally feel any need to be "part of" the United States. It's simply the regional administration, filled to the brim with parasites, intent on taking whatever they can from me. I do enjoy feeling part of my local town or state 'community', but again, they're 99.9999999999999% strangers, that happen to live within the same area.
Tribe is what matters. 5-20 people that you actually care about. Everything else is nonsense.

I think in the drive to push political correctness and social agendas they have killed all entertainment. Even Country music is truly fucked.
