New Historical Find Mega Thread

Post by Penner »

So, I feel like everyday there is at least one new historical find and I was wondering IF this thread could be a single place for those type of articles?

Here I will go first:
Today, the journal Nature has published a finding that sounds like the setup to a Nicolas Cage movie. A team of physicists and engineers has discovered a previously unknown “void” in the Great Pyramid at Giza in Egypt. And they did it with the help of cosmic rays created at the edge of space.

The “ScanPyramids Big Void,” as scientists are calling it, is around 98 feet long and about 50 feet high. The investigators don’t know what’s inside this void or what its purpose is. Nor do they have any way to currently access it.

But it’s a huge finding. “No very big structure has not been discovered inside the Khufu pyramid since the Middle Ages,” Mehdi Tayoubi, co-founder of the nonprofit that led the research, told reporters Wednesday.

Those crazy Egyptians. Always keeping us guessing with their hidden chambers.

I wonder whether the pyramids will be around until the end of the earth...

This heretofore unknown chamber seems to fit absolutely perfectly with Houdin's theory:
Wiki wrote:The team concluded that the pyramid’s architect, Hemiunu, concerned that the cracks imperiled the whole structure, had cut a tunnel into a sealed space above the burial chamber to assess the damage, and then had filled the cracks with plaster as a tell-tale that would indicate if they were widening. The beams held and the pyramid was completed.
Except, unbeknownst to him, "the chamber" was a purposefully built reinforcement/ramp and left empty instead of filled with ruble.

Whenever I built my pyramids out of Lego blocks I made sure to make each layer a solid square.

Wait. No I didn't.

Also, I could have swore this story has broke at least half a dozen times already over the past couple decades.

A painting that sold for $60 in 1958 is expected to fetch $100 million at a Christie’s auction in November 2017. That’s because the piece—known as Salvator Mundi, or “Savior of the World”—has since been identified as a work by Leonardo da Vinci. Painted around the same time as the Mona Lisa, it is one of fewer than 20 known paintings by the Renaissance master.

Why did it take this long for art historians to figure out the luminous early 1500s work was by da Vinci? Well, from the 15th century onward, many artists created Salvator Mundi imagery, usually showing Christ raising his right hand and cradling the world in his left. Art historians in the 20th century knew that da Vinci had created his own version of Salvator Mundi, and had identified more than 20 copies that other artists had made of his version. But for a long time, no one knew where the original was.

Archaeologists find first evidence for Julius Caesar's invasion of Britain
The first Roman invasion of Britain by Julius Caesar in 55BC is a historical fact, with vivid accounts passed down by Tacitus, Cicero and Caesar himself.

Yet, despite a huge landing force of legionaries from 800 ships, no archaeological evidence for the attack or any physical remains of encampments have ever been found.

But now a chance excavation carried out ahead of a road building project in Kent has uncovered what is thought to be the first solid proof for the invasion.

Viking-Era Stone Carved with Runes Found in Norway

I thought runes were fairly common, but apparently finding one is a big deal.
Account abandoned.
