Voter ID Law, The White Man's Last Hope
If Trump cannot pass a Voter ID law, will his presidency be a failure?
If we can't get this done, whats the point besides merely delaying the inevitable?

It's not a federal jurisdiction, though. We are supposed to deal with this at the state level which, honestly, is easier since republicans control most state legislatures now.
From the federal level, I wonder if there is a way to simply invalidate all the electoral votes from states like California until they stop trying to overthrow the Democratic process with illegal voting. That, if possible, makes more sense to me. If a state is willing to do what California just did, then they shouldn't get a vote in federal elections.
Just getting a national identification card won't solve it either, since states like California will just continue to accept illegal votes.

Re: Voter ID Law, The White Man's Last Hope
I'm fully in favor of voter ID. I've always had to show my ID to vote, going back to 1984.
In the areas that don't have it, though, there's valid reasons for concern. In TX, some people are 170 miles away from their nearest ID office. I want it fixed, but it should not be a financial burden to obtain the ID. There's also some question about why some IDs are allowed, but others are not. Often in these cases, the IDs not allowed were those mostly held by minorities.
There's other reasons as well.
Summary - we need voter ID, but people need easy access to get said ID.

Same, but I'll bang on my drum again to consult IT security experts when drafting the ID design docs, then work with the finance industry to tie that to a person's credit history instead of their SSN. Seriously, the Equifax breach should be the death kneel for this insane system of using a nine-digit, unchangeable, all-important password to your entire financial life. Which even if it somehow hasn't been leaked and sold on the darkweb by now is actually extremely easy to guess due to the "algorithm" used to determine it.Kath wrote:I'm fully in favor of voter ID. National Secure Mail-Order ID, now.

Maybe I'm just pessimistic from my years of being a witness to government, but as a white man I feel pretty confident in saying any form of federal national ID can fuck right off, these opportunistic fucks will not hesitate to add some bullshit requirement or mandate or chip to a voter ID card. Oh it's a voter ID but I can use it to conveniently purchase goods and services after it's forcibly linked to my bank account? Oh and it tracks me for my own safety to ensure a democratic process during election season? Oh and it will conveniently rub my balls as the feds further clamp down on any anonymity I enjoy? Fuck outta here, I empathize with voter fraud but I don't trust those dishonest shitheads in DC

I just show my driver's license. /shrugs. I doubt anybody around here is in favor of a national ID. It's bad enough we have to start showing our passports to travel domestically, soon.pineapplemike wrote:Maybe I'm just pessimistic from my years of being a witness to government, but as a white man I feel pretty confident in saying any form of federal national ID can fuck right off, these opportunistic fucks will not hesitate to add some bullshit requirement or mandate or chip to a voter ID card. Your SSN was forcibly linked to your credit history the moment you took out a credit card or loan, and the government had nothing to do with it, it was a collectively agreed decision on the part of the private sector. That barn door you're so worried about has been open for decades.pineapplemike wrote:Maybe I'm just pessimistic from my years of being a witness to government, but as a white man I feel pretty confident in saying any form of federal national ID can fuck right off, these opportunistic fucks will not hesitate to add some bullshit requirement or mandate or chip to a voter ID card. I understand your point but I don't think I'm being irrational in assuming the feds will take a mile if I give an inch. I'm sure the legislation for a federal-fuck-me-in-the-ass card is already written and waiting
