Solar Filter

So I ordered online a solar filter two weeks ago, now I am being told it's on back order. So now I am scrambling to find the film to make it possible. Does anyone know any materials that can be used as effective solar filters? I can either have it on the end of Telescope, so the size of the material won't matter.

Is there something I can get at a local hobby shop to make this work?

Attach it to the telescope, so I can view the solar eclipse and take photos of it.

Awesome! I hope you get some good pictures! Make sure you wear protective goggles when you look at the eclipse. That sounds very dumb, but a lot of people get permanent eye damage, because they don't take precautions.

I don't know anything about solar filters, but I do hope you upload your photos to the forum. I would be very interesting in seeing them. I'm excited about the eclipse myself!

I might be wrong but if it has a cap already try poking a pin hole in it. That's basically how people view it by eye iirc

Not if I want to take pictures of it though, that won't work.

Maybe try and work out how people used to do it way back in the day.

Let me give you an idea... I didn't spend a few hundred on a telescope to make the need of a view refactor...
