NYC wants to tax top 1% to fix subway...
Sorry, the original story: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles ... ng-subways
I got a better idea, fix the way you spend money.

From the story:
$2 million dollar bathroom, that's what New York City government spent to build a "comfort station" in a park. Not too far away, Bryant Park has a bathroom that gets much more use. That bathroom cost just $300,000. Why the difference?
Bryant Park is privately managed.
Oh, the story also has a sub-story in it about a person that spent $500 to fix stairs, the city tore it down and spend $10,000 to do the same thing the person did...

You are right, but of course Bill De Blasio, a Democrat is trying to make it happen. I've yet to see a Democrat not vote for a tax... they seem to think they can tax their way out of everything.apeman wrote:Albany is R controlled, shouldn't pass

Doesn't this put you in a difficult position though, Apeman? You represent the guys making $100/hr, installing $10,000 stairs right? The Conservative wrote:Oh, the story also has a sub-story in it about a person that spent $500 to fix stairs, the city tore it down and spend $10,000 to do the same thing the person did...

But how often do you get to take a dump in a restroom that cost millions of dollars to build? Perspective.

Trump Tower, any building that the government built lately, not too hard.Speaker to Animals wrote:But how often do you get to take a dump in a restroom that cost millions of dollars to build? Perspective.

Yes, but that extra loot is not profit for the contractor, it is fees, permits, prevailing wages (i.e. paying the guy who cleans garbage off the site like $100/hour).GrumpyCatFace wrote:Doesn't this put you in a difficult position though, Apeman? It's more profitable to build stuff elsewhere, without govt funding.

Much as I have no problem taxing millionaires, NYC could raise mucho cash simply by reducing their subsidy to non-commercial real estate. Homes in NYC are taxed at a less than 20% the rate of surrounding areas, and that includes the condos owned by Russian and Chinese oligarchs that sit empty. If they were taxed at 2% rather than less than 1/2% the parking of cash in property would be less appealing. It could even be progressive to the price, hitting $20m penthouses with 4%.
We are only accustomed to dealing with like twenty online personas at a time so when we only have about ten people some people have to be strawmanned in order to advance our same relative go nowhere nonsense positions. -TheReal_ND
