I don't really disagree with you. Trump's the Team Captain, he has to make it happen.

I do believe that DC is an insiders Club, and the folks there have cheated, lied and brown noised their way to their positions. To see an outsider come in is repellent. And Trump is easy to hate in a town that has been on the PC bullet train for 40 years.

"Russia! Russia! Russia!" is the only thing propping Trump up right now, that's keeping his base in a constant circle the wagons rally to the Trump mode, if "Russia! Russia! Russia!" goes away, then the only narrative left is; Trump is too politically weak to run the government and/or get the GOP congress to pass any meaningful legislation.

On the other hand, "Russia! Russia! Russia!" will probably persist all the way to 2020, saving Trump's bacon in the end.

Trump doesn't really have a clue what he would want to do about Afghanistan, Syria, China, yadda, yadda, yadda, but what he does know is, so long as his opponents just keep screaming "Russia! Russia! Russia!" to the exclusion of an actual alternative and/or critique which would actually resonate with the GOP base, it doesn't matter, Trump will just win by default, having done nothing, other than riding those wagons circled around him, all the way to 2020 and beyond.

Trump knows he doesn't want to do the same thing we've done for the last 15 years in Afghanistan, which is more than the last 2 POTUS's have done. So I give him props for that. Trump definitely doesn't want to F around in the middle east anymore.

My only beef with your general sentiment Smitty is that the man lost his Stonewall Jackson before the war even commenced. Throw on top of that the media hemming him in on decisions that are palpable to the public and he's in a tough spot.
