The sophistication level of corporate influence is mind boggling. I can't wait to throw my phone into the surf once I get settled in at 19*N. Apparently, Google banned a bunch of these apps most likely because they weren't receiving a cut of the action.

I don't mind if companies want to develop apps that provide services people want. What I don't like is when they do it surreptitiously and then sell my profile data. As the use of this tech becomes more and more invasive, state legislatures ought to respond with laws that force the companies peddling this software to make short, clearly written, simple-language disclaimers about how the apps will be using the phone, the data being collected, and how to turn off or limit those features.
