Hundreds of criminal illegal aliens released rather than be turned over to ICE in the first week of reporting.

Sanctuary Travis County Released 142 Criminal Aliens in Week, Says ICE

Officials reported that 206 criminally charged illegal aliens were released from the custody of jails after an immigration detainer had been issued. Of those, 142 came from Travis County Sheriff “Sanctuary Sally” Hernandez’ jail, Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s office reported in a statement obtained by Breitbart Texas.

“Today’s report from DHS is deeply disturbing and highlights the urgent need for a statewide sanctuary city ban in Texas,” Governor Abbott said in the written statement. “The Travis County Sheriff’s decision to deny ICE detainer requests and release back into our communities criminals charged with heinous crimes – including sexual offenses against children, domestic violence and kidnapping – is dangerous and should be criminal in itself. Texas will act to put an end to sanctuary policies that put the lives of our citizens at risk.”

Roberto Galo, an unlicensed driver from Honduras who entered the U.S. illegally but earned temporary protective status (TPS), killed Drew Rosenberg, a second-year law student, on November 16, 2010 in San Francisco, California. Rosenberg was riding his motorcycle when Galo ran over him three times with his car. Galo was convicted of vehicular manslaughter and sentenced to 6 months in jail. USCIS refused to deport him and he was released after serving only 43 days. Thanks to the Rosenberg family's activism, Galo was finally deported on April 4, 2013.

The Dems are going to oppose this, and the use of the Merit is going in infuriate them.
The Dems main reason to oppose it is that their power rests on having a continuous flow of the poorly informed, poorly educated*, and low skilled.

They said going after MS-13 is racism against Mexicans. Of course they'll oppose it.
