Let's Go Mammoth Hunting

Post by Fife » Thu Feb 16, 2017 3:35 pm

Do we have a thread for discussing the morality/ethicality/legality of genetic engineering of animals and plants other than humans?

Woolly mammoth on verge of resurrection, scientists reveal
Church, a guest speaker at the meeting, said the mammoth project had two goals: securing an alternative future for the endangered Asian elephant and helping to combat global warming. Woolly mammoths could help prevent tundra permafrost from melting and releasing huge amounts of greenhouse gas into the atmosphere.

“They keep the tundra from thawing by punching through snow and allowing cold air to come in,” said Church. “In the summer they knock down trees and help the grass grow.”

The scientists intend to engineer elephant skin cells to produce the embryo, or multiple embryos, using cloning techniques. Nuclei from the reprogrammed cells would be placed into elephant egg cells whose own genetic material has been removed. The eggs would then be artificially stimulated to develop into embryos.

Church predicts that age-reversal will become a reality within 10 years as a result of the new developments in genetic engineering.

If we reintroduce the Wooly Mammoth, is it copacetic to shoot one with a .470 Nitro Express, or should we only use an atlatl?

I have wanted to hunt a Wooly Mammoth since I was a child. If there was a drooling masturbation emoji in the sidebar I would use it.

As I grew older I have weighed that very question. The Big Bore gun or should we have to use Clovis era technology. I think there is room for both. Anthropologists have a theory based on human skeletons that primitive man engaged Mammoths close up, most often with spear thrusts. How scary would that be ?

As far as big guns. On one hand you can go Nitro Express, 375 H&H or with one of the modern tactical 50 cal rifles. But if your going to use a big gun on a Mammoth it really ought to be an old Victorian 4 Bore as a nod to those British Adventurers on the Dark Continent.

I'd say shooting that bad MF on your off-shoulder would be a good way to get seriously messed up.

Yeah, that had to hurt. There's tons of Youtubes on knuckleheads shooting big guns, and it's kind of funny.

He's shooting it wrong, He's trying to be tough and take the recoil. The proper way to fire those guns is to roll with it. Should just rock back your whole body. Basically make your rear heal the pivot point, gotta give in the legs.

This is the best global warming solution I have ever heard.
