WWII Equipment - Vics, Aircraft and Kit
We all love it.
First topic to kick us off : Equipment used by others than the country of origin: Captured, Lend Lease, etc.
Captured Schwimwagen, how fun would that be >

I'll take one of those, and all the other VW variants.C-Mag wrote:We all love it.

I like the way the greyhound looks. Might even be fun.
If maintenance costs are no issue, 113s can be a lot of fun.

M8s were pretty cool. I just read the Wiki page on it, and found out a Greyhound took out a Tiger II Panzer during the battle of the bulge using it's spead to shoot it in the ass.Okeefenokee wrote:I like the way the greyhound looks. Might even be fun.

The Germans used a lot of wood and coal gasification during the war.Okeefenokee wrote:I'll take one of those, and all the other VW variants.C-Mag wrote:We all love it.

Quick anecdote: I grew up with a WWII B-17 waist gunner, he was shot down, put in a Stalag and escaped late in the war. Once they made it to friendly lines they toured around Europe in a wood fired car they found.

The other interesting thing about this site it that it shows just how much work went into the manufacture of these vehicles.

I've been going through this thing, that is a crazy amount of work. I rebuilt a jeep and it wasn't too bad, now I'm doing an M-37 truck and that's all I want. I could never fathom taking on a tank. Have you read Belton Coopers . He was a maintenance officer with the Tank Corps in the push across Europe. Talks about keeping tanks running in battle. Good stuff.
