Aboriginal People
Americans are endlessly castigated to accept collective blame for our forebears actions, so it is a curious feeling to be in Australia and see almost the same situation. Aboriginal people are everywhere & nowhere. They are ghosts, almost totally invisible & ignored. I noted that the drunken men, patrons of State-sanctioned gambling, and loitering crowds were all aborigines. I didn't know if they liked their situation or despaired in it, but was intrigued by a message painted on the sidewalk in middle of nowhere: "fack you poilce, Joseph Crispz." My Australian co-traveler, Shane, told me Joseph was probably the only Abo who could almost spell & had a can of spray paint.
