Inherited Guilt

Post by Martin Hash » Thu Feb 09, 2017 9:44 pm

The idea of inherited guilt, a Catholic dogma, is the foundation of many ideologies. The concept that the son is responsible for the deeds of his father is one of the concepts America revolted against, yet that very idea is central to the Progressive themes of shared guilt for past racial & gender exploitation.

Are people held responsible for the supposed sins of their forefathers? Should discrimination now be the solution for discrimination in the past? Is "equality" the goal? I answer no to all these questions, but then I'm a Libertycentric American raised to believe people are responsible for their own actions and no one else's, no excuses.

I do see that the past discriminations of fathers and grandfathers are being demanded to be reparated by current generations. I too somewhat fail to understand the logic behind such a stance- the sins of the father shall not be treated as the sins of the son.

Is that really a Catholic dogma?

It's from the Old Testament and it's actually true. The sins of the father pass down to his son who in turn passes down the sins his. It's a reference to doing ill not a reference to guilt by association. More of a proto pro family message. You people have no sense of how written word worked thousands of years ago do you?
