Alexander and Pindar

Post by Okeefenokee »

Was doing some research today for an essay, and I came upon this.

Code: Select all

Search:alexander the great spared house
Clicked on first link,

Why did Alexander spare the house of Pindar at Thebes?

It was a pretty interesting read.

Pindar was one of the more revered Greek poets, and one of their nine lyric poets. He lived Thebes and might have allowed current events in politics and intergreek rivalry (specifically with Athens) influence his work. He died close to a 100 years before Alexander took the city.

And in my soul am free,

Enjoy such Liberty" - Richard Lovelace
