Trump's 1st Big Chance on Free Speech & the IRC
Here's one where he will need to get Congress to enact legislation. Will he be as effective when he has to go asking them for something?
As to striking down anti-speech tax laws, I certainly hope so.
Speaking at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, Trump said he would seek to overturn the Johnson Amendment, which prohibits tax-exempt nonprofits — including churches and other houses of worship — from "directly or indirectly" participating in a political candidate's campaign.
Repeal of the amendment — which is part of the tax code and would require action by Congress — has been sought primarily by conservative Christian leaders who argue that it is used selectively to keep them from speaking out freely.

What else would you all like to see taken out of the IRC?

Lets give the churches the freedom to participate.... in exchange for taxing them like every other entity in the US
No man's life, liberty, or property are safe while the legislature is in session

How about all taxes, and we only pay the taxes in which we spend money to buy things with? I don't know... to me that is the perfect way to do it, because there is no excuse why the IRS can tax you and hit you with penalties, but not give you interest if you over pay.

So we should tax all other non-for-profits too?
The way the law is applied is obviously discriminatory and unconstitutional. Your freedom of speech ought not depend upon your tax status, and even if it does, it should apply to all not-for-profits.
But like I have said for years to you guys: go ahead and tax churches. You will get everything you deserve in the wake of that move. Nothing will hold us back then.

I'd laugh so fucking hard if the IRS got hold of "non-profit" church accounting ledgers.

Fine. Do it. You won't be laughing when churches get back into politics again.
