English Too
In SW China, Chinese characters, called Hanzi, signs are accompanied with an Arabic translation. It was somewhat worrisome that giant, influential China had more in common with Islam rather than The West. But then, as we traveled & talked to ethnic Chinese, a schism materialized. Ethnic, Buddhist-leaning Chinese don't much like the Muslims, and apparently the feeling is mutual because we had to change our itinerary due to terrorists attacks by Islamic separatists. Getting further into China, more & more of the signs had English subtitles, however misspelled they may be, and though few people speak English, they seem to embrace Western culture, certainly they were courteous to us, in Chinese terms, anyway.
