You Have No Rights

Post by Martin Hash » Mon Oct 10, 2016 2:27 am

You have no Rights. There are no natural rights, no human rights, no God-given rights, nothing. The simple fact is, there is no mystical origin of Rights. Rights are only bestowed on you by people willing to commit violence. This misunderstanding stems from the most basic truism about life & society, that violence is the ultimate arbitrator. Without allies, you would be a slave or dead. Your Rights come from an implied quid pro quo contractual relationship with other people. But for some reason, people are not taught this. They just assume other people will kowtow to their self-interested desires, and you know that when people assume something, they make an "ass" out of "u" and "me."

George Carlin said it best.

You have not rights because rights are not rights if someone can just take them away. They're privileges, a temporary list of privileges. 8-)

George Carlin was my comedic hero.

Interestingly, as a youngin', I thought he was talking above my head, then I finally "got it," but now it's like watching an old movie you liked as a kid. John Oliver is more my style now.

Eww, you had me until John Oliver.

I mean, he's a smug s.o.b. like you, so I get the solidarity there, but honestly I think you've got more reason to be smug than he does. "Drumpf" has to be one of the lamest take-downs of all time.

Mainstream ones? Not that I'm aware of. What happened to your avatar? I could have swore I saw it earlier.

I'm curious, what're peoples' thoughts on the practical utility of this question? I mean, does it really matter that rights aren't truly inherent for each individual? We treat them as if they are, the constitution treats them as if they are. So because society treats them as inherent in humanity, what is the usefulness of this type of conversation?
