That's ridiculous. A 30 cal bullet is about 10 grams in total. How much pollution could be done hunting deer? Sacremento does this while allowing people to shit and piss everywhere and toss their heroin needles.California will become the first state in the nation to require nonlead ammunition for all firearms-related hunting. California’s phase-in of nonlead ammunition for hunting originated with state legislation signed into law in 2013. In 2015, the California Fish and Game Commission adopted regulations to phase in the requirement over time with full implementation July 1, 2019.

As I understand it, the point is to simply poke a hole in something from a distance. Wouldn’t you want to be sure there’s no lead in the meat?

For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

Lead fishing weights were a bad idea. We got rid of them 40 years ago.
Europe has tight regulations against using shot with lead near water.
Should be carbon free, sustainable, biodegradable and organic shot IMO.

I’m actually for that. I saw some horrible things in Florida, fishing as a kid.Montegriffo wrote: ↑Sun May 19, 2019 2:12 amLead fishing weights were a bad idea. We got rid of them 40 years ago.

Fishing line and weights don’t go away.

No, you want the projectile to have more f/ps stopping power. Also, lead is softer and deforms, thereby causing mushrooming and more trauma. The trauma is what kills, not the holeSuburbanFarmer wrote: ↑Sat May 18, 2019 9:20 pmExplain.California wrote: ↑Sat May 18, 2019 8:14 pmThey've cursed us with steel shot for waterfowl since the late 80s

F is force, m is mass and a is A is acceleration.
Check out the difference in mass
Without doing all the math, Lead with a mass of 207, has nearly 4X the hitting force of iron/steel at a mass of 55. Add to that lead being soft and deforming upon impact, therefore deliver more force and damage to the target.

Standard issue military rifles have trended toward smaller rounds and higher velocity to stop the same humans. The Brown Bess fired a 545 gr 75 cal bullet at 1000 feet per second, a century later the 45-70 government fired a 375 gr 45 cal bullet at 1400 fps, a century after that, c 1975 7.62x51 nato is a 164 gr 30 cal bullet travelling at 2600 fps.

Does that not counter what you just posted? Lighter weight projectiles with more speed > heavier ones?C-Mag wrote: ↑Tue May 21, 2019 8:50 pmStandard issue military rifles have trended toward smaller rounds and higher velocity to stop the same humans.
