No, you want the projectile to have more f/ps stopping power. Also, lead is softer and deforms, thereby causing mushrooming and more trauma. The trauma is what kills, not the hole

Without doing all the math, Lead with a mass of 207, has nearly 4X the hitting force of iron/steel at a mass of 55. Add to that lead being soft and deforming upon impact, therefore deliver more force and damage to the target.
