I think we are crying just because it might be harder to get ahead now than for the boomers.
Still easier to get ahead than any other time in history.

How long do I have to sit in this chair screwing around on an internet message board before I get a bump in pay, goddammit?

over almost two decades of stagnant wages it takes it's toll Smitty. So in 18 years the cost of living increased around 35% and wages were/are stagnant. See where the issue is? That's giving that the core inflation rate of 1.7%. Compounding interest is wonderful when you can invest and a bitch when you're talking about stagnation.Smitty-48 wrote:Not at 1.7% core inflation, might have been the case in 1975 when core inflation was 14%, but is not the case now, in 2017.SilverEagle wrote:When wages are stagnant the little guy gets rammed up the bunghole with zero lube and in some cases the ramming device is coated with 100 grit sandpaper.Smitty-48 wrote:
You are wrong, inflation doesn't screw the little guy who doesn't invest, inflation is his friend, inflation means he never has to pay the piper, inflation screws the guys with the money not the guys without, as if you don't have any money, what do you care if it is devalued?

If you're amongst the oldest of the Boomers, then you entered the economy in the mid to late sixties, so you didn't actually work in the postwar boom, you might have caught the last year or two of it, but in reality, you entered the economy on the cusp of one of the worst recessionary spirals in American history, the inflationary spiral of the 1970's, even if you're amongst the youngest of the boomers, you entered the economy in the early 80's, and no picnic that was neither.
The Boomers never lived paycheck to paycheck? Oh yes they did, don't be ridiculous, no land of milk and savings was the 70s and 80s, bet dat.

That be nice, but a dollar back thirty years ago is worth $1.53 today, yet the cost of everything else has gone up by 50% minimum... do you not see a problem with that?

What requisite skills are you looking for?apeman wrote:I need to hire a young attorney, and literally cannot find one with the requisite skills, we are willing to overpay, but if you're good and tough, the world is your oyster.Smitty-48 wrote:For those with the highly sought after employable skills, wages have actually skyrocketed against almost no inflation at all.DBTrek wrote:Lots of bitching about wages not going up.

All my young buddies who are in the field seem to be getting screwed.
I can tell you in my specific niche industry there ain't a guy making under 6 figures and we have trouble finding people. We even train the requisite skills, thing is nobody grows up even thinking about the manufacturing field anymore. They all want to work in a cubicle till they die.

No, a dollar is worth a dollar. You just have less purchasing power with it.The Conservative wrote:apeman wrote:YeahThe Conservative wrote:
