Well, it was the local governments that took them down and most of them usually find some other group to take possession and care of them to some other place. So, they are not being destroyed (most of the time) but just being removed from public property by the local government.

As with local groups have been petitioning local governments (on city and state levels) to remove these statues. Again comparing them to ISIS fucking ridiculous and over the top hyperbolic because like 99.9% of the time they are not being destroyed just moved off to some other place.
