The Experts have been wrong from the start of this.
Treating this disease with ventilators is like using leaches and blood letting. The medical field and our lead experts demanded ventilators and have resisted treating the severe hypoxia that does the killing.

If I had the misfortune of being hospitalized for this thing I don't know if id agree to being ventilated. Its a tough call to make and we don't know what the hell to do. I do think if they are ventilating mostly to reduce the risk of spreading it to staff then we are fucked. I guess then they don't have PPE or whatever they need to be able to reasonably treat sick patients.C-Mag wrote: ↑Mon Apr 27, 2020 10:23 amThe Experts have been wrong from the start of this.

I think we can confidently place Trump's personal culpability somewhere between 0 and 100%, non-inclusive.
As I see it, them main problem with Trump's leadership is that he is unfocused, disorganized, and spotty on important details. The initial White House plan of mitigation and herd immunity could have been the best course if it had been paired with a targeted roll out of stimulus directed at the most vulnerable, allowing them to stay home and socially distance.
Instead of being very clear and intentional about the reasoning and goals of such a plan, Trump spent the first weeks bloviating about how our death rates were superb, and we were already handling everything great. As ever, he seemed more concerned with being perceived as doing a great job, and less focused on actually doing any job at all.

Very much this. And it doesn’t look like anything that I would consider ‘leadership’.Hanarchy Montanarchy wrote: ↑Mon Apr 27, 2020 10:40 amI think we can confidently place Trump's personal culpability somewhere between 0 and 100%, non-inclusive.

I think your problem is that you misunderstand statistics in this context.pineapplemike wrote: ↑Mon Apr 27, 2020 10:22 amare we to believe the number of infected is much higher than the "confirmed" infected total? how much does that weigh against the quoted 5% mortality rate? if this has supposedly been in ths US and california since septemberhow was anyone in government supposed to contain it? you can say testing and contact tracing all you want but if this virus is as contagious as i've been told, it was going to get out one way or anotherSpeaker to Animals wrote: ↑Sat Apr 18, 2020 10:00 amThen California is starting to figure out it was already epidemic there at least since Sept.
You need to consider that lethality is product of mortality rate *and* infectiousness. Take two diseases and assume they have identical mortality rates but that one has twice the reproductive rate as the other. Are they the same threat because they have the same mortality rate? No. The answer is fucking no.
Secondly you need to consider that you have very little data on the actual infection rate of covid. We can only go by the CFR right now and the CFR in the US is currently clocking in just under 5%. When you combine a CFR with an R0 still somewhere at least over 2.0 even with the isolation measures in place, you have a pretty bad pandemic on your hands.
If not for the consequences of this kind of stupidity, it would have amused me to see people faced with mass graves in NYC and over 50k dead in the US only to say it's no worse than the flu because they compare a probably bogus estimation of covid's IFR with influenza's CFR.
As far as it being here long before Wuhan went epidemic, if I am right, it was type A that was here and it that really is only a little more lethal than influenza. Nor would it have infected enough people to really get us anywhere near herd immunity, and that's assuming recovery actually results in immunity -- which is something we still do not know.

Should we all be chewing nicotine gum for its protective benefits against corona virus replication?

You people are trying my patience... If you think I'm kidding, continue to wind it up to rage quit, just like Trump.
