That's how I remember it.
And you asked for an opportunity to harvest a troll finger...
so I was kind a wish granting... you should be grateful.
Drow Paladin.
I said I wanted to harvest a piece of a troll to leave in TC's sandwhich, and then you were like, "now you are only level 3 and here comes your troll!" What kind of DMing is that?
A troll is a fifth-level monster and then you downgraded my level to 3.

You are a 3rd level Drow Paladin, AC2, two handed sword 1-10 damage, (or AC1, shield and broadsword 1-8), I assign you 20hp
No spells for now. Priest spells start at level 9.
I'll throw in a vial of oil and some flint...

Why would I engage with a troll when I am I only 3rd level? A troll requires 2-4 party members with an average level of 5.
A 20 hp character dies in one strike from a troll. Do you not have a monster manual?

Maybe no troll finger sandwich for TC today?
That's disappointing....
You might be able to outrun a troll, I guess...
Or perhaps some of your fellow party members might be cajoled / bribed to join you... there are quite a few available.
I mean who likes Trolls anyways?
A strange predicament indeed.

Oh, look. Lolth appears and makes the DM into a player character. She then summons an ancient dragon lich to attack the DM. You are level 3 bard. You have a lute, but it only has two strings.

Sits quietly on a nearby hill to watch StA run away from a troll, cursing his gods.
