Prohibiting law-abiding citizens from carrying a fucking pocket knife is an abuse in and of itself. It's tyrannical, Monty. Even peasants were allowed to carry knives.

Since the wolf was reintroduced into Danish nature recently, it's been enjoying a status as a protected species. Thing is, the wolves have so far only emigrated into Jutland (came from Germany), and stuck to rural areas and small woodlands there. Farmers are nervous about them attacking pets and farm animals - and children. Others are mocking the farmers as hysterical and instead delight in the thought that Denmark now has wolves.

Shooter, a relative of the farmer in the tractor, got arrested for violating the hunting law since there was no evidence it was threatening anyone or any livestock or pets. Two amateur biologists and wolf-enthusiasts were following and filming the wolf (1st vid) before the shooting (2nd vid):





Guessing the tractor driver got scared about having to eventually leave his tractor, called his brother/father who came with the rifle. Anyway, the whole wolf thing's been major news and cause for lots of opinion pieces and debates for a week now. Media attention has been anything from realistic, to idealistic, to demands that they all be wiped out for good (again). Oh, and some post modern analysis about how the fear of wolves is really about something within ourselves.

When I was stationed in Idaho in the 90s, the liberals forced the reintroduction of wolves. The ranchers and farmers tried to stop it in court, arguing they would become a real problem, i.e. why we exterminated them from those areas in the first place. To no avail.

I know guys who have since moved back to Idaho (basically, they are all getting divorced and migrating back to the promise land). On Facebook they share stories of what is going down with the wolves. Wolves are a huge problem now.


Good luck. But consider that wolves were removed from these areas on purpose.

Yeah, their numbers are increasing quite rapidly - there are plenty of deer for them to hunt and, aside from hunters, no competition. I almost hope they'll wander into one of the many major cities - even ones here in Jutland - because that's where most of those who can't/won't see things from the farmer's perspective reside. The video isn't helping farmers, though. Biologists are saying there's very little reason to fear attacks on people, but that the law should also recognize that wolves may target Danish free range livestock - who after all, haven't had to proof themselves against wolves since the early 19th century.

Or maybe pay someone to simply grab all the wolves and transport them across the water to Sjælland, closer to Copenhagen and place them in all their favorite parks.

The video seemed to show a farmer chasing a wolf rather than the other way round. Then the brother shooting it as it was leaving. Whatever reason they shot it I don't think it was because the farmer was in danger.
Are they a protected species in Denmark?

In the 90s, there were zero wolves and no wolf problems. Liberals said they'd not become a problem.

Good thing nobody is holding out hope for liberals admitting they were wrong.
