I dunno, I feel like I'm far from pushing the panic button. I think some common sense precautions are in order and there is already an economic impact. I just think there are an awful lot of unknowns out there right now.
It could be that Bat Aids is more like Cholera, where good habits and precautions can avoid it. Don't know. But I'm not gonna bet on it be nothing. I'd rather fill the larder, and eat off it for the next year and be wrong.

What if you don't trust the government or the news, but you still don't regard this as a big deal? Imagine telling some dude about to storm Omaha beach that in 75 years people will think that having a runny nose and a tummy ache will lead to the end of America. He'd probably empty his Garand into you. If you are scared of the flu, you are living in the wrong country. Americans are better than this.
As an aside, China does need to get its shit together. The last 4 of these viruses have come from the chinky food industry. They really are fucking the dog (assuming they aren't eating it) when it comes to food safety.

Yes, China and every other country is taking it seriously and that is why it isn't spreading anything like as quickly as the Spanish flu. That virus was kept a secret for months as a matter of national security.C-Mag wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2020 1:40 pmI don't discount anyone thinking wolf is being cried again.Montegriffo wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2020 1:34 pm
A couple of years ago the same panic monkeys were telling us we were all going to die from Ebola. Before that it was MERS and before that it was SARS.
This virus isn't the Spanish flu. That virus killed people of all ages within days of infection.
For me what is different is that we are already seeing disruption of trade to a degree that major suppliers of Chinese goods to the west like Walmart, have empty shelves. This is only 45-60 days in, and the growth rate on a line graph is running at a 45 degree angle with no signs of letting off.
The comparisons between the two are very wide of the mark.

I'm not saying don't take precautions. Wash your hands a lot and avoid travel hubs. Buy more food if it makes you feel better.C-Mag wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2020 1:47 pmLOL

Just don't fall for the panic monkeys who are telling you that millions of people will die.

StA just wants to virtue signal about his 20lb sack of rice.
Meanwhile, there are just 13 confirmed cases in the UK, zero deaths and full shelves in the supermarkets. We don't even buy much food from China, What we don't produce ourselves comes mostly from Europe.
If I needed a new i-phone or a TV I might be a bit more worried.

Basic risk analysis dictates, in the worst outcome for either of us, it's better to have no pandemic and a few months of food to eat through than to have a pandemic with a 1+ month mandatory lock down and no food. /shrug.
You can call that panic and virtue signaling all day long, but you are the only one virtue signaling about how you fail to prepare -- even though your own government is now warning you to do just that -- because of your irrational belief that this will somehow be averted.
I certainly hope it's averted, but it's bloody retarded to not prepare in the assumption that it will.
Your fallacious arguments that it can't happen because the numbers are too huge (fallacy of argument from disbelief) are just fallacious nonsense. It's spreading fast, dude. Europe is already in pandemic mode as of this morning. The global supply chain is in shambles and most of the shit is going to run out. Do whatever you want though. I don't really care what you do or not do. You are the one constantly chasing other posters about for daring to even talk about this pandemic. The fuck is wrong with you? We get it. You are super clever and won't prepare because you know for certain nothing will happen. Stop spamming the thread where others want to talk about this pandemic and then playing victim as if we are the ones attacking you.
Also, 20 lbs of rice is not sufficient. You need protein too. Also, 20 lbs of rice is maybe a month of food if you ration it out with about 1 cup of dried beans per day that you hydrate, barely. You might want more than that, and you probably want some variety. When I said buy 20 lbs bags (plural) of rice, I meant that as a starting point. I doubt we are going to lose power, so load up the freezer with meat or whatever it is you like to eat. I don't understand why grocery shopping for 4-8 weeks of food is "panic", but whatever.
