It's not what it is but how you are using it. Being Breitbart there is no context to the story about the potato peeler, if it was being used to threaten harm then a potato peeler is an offensive weapon.

Just explaining the law as it is applied. If this lad was arrested for having a potato peeler in his pocket that is clearly overreach. If he was waving it around trying to stab someone then clearly he was using it as an offensive weapon. The article gives no context. The law on knives states that you can carry one with a blade of less than 3 inches legally (unless you are under 18). A peeler cannot be classed as a knife with a blade over 3 inches so I presume he was threatening someone with it.

You can kill someone with a pencil, a broom, a plastic bag - any household object. These laws are worse than pointless.

A British man was arrested Saturday after he was found walking the streets of Dunfermline, Scotland, with a potato peeler.

Scott Walker, 39, appeared before the Dunfermline Sheriff Court Monday, where he was charged under Criminal Law Act 1995 for carrying “an article which had a blade or which was sharply pointed, namely a potato peeler,” the Dunfermline Press reported.

The man faces up to four years in prison for carrying the kitchen utensil in public without good reason.

The headline of your article says ''weilding'' a peeler. That implies he was waving it about or threatening someone with it.
Sometimes details matter. That article is also omitting any details of his arrest.
Personally I'm more woried about the lead content in my port decanter than the risk of 4 years in prison for carrying a potato peeler.
