How is that fine by you? You'd rather wait 50 years just to hold onto the belt via technicality? Fuck that.Smitty-48 wrote:Whatevs, I'm prepared to sit on the belt for fifty years, that's how long we had to wait to get a shot at the title, all that time the Soviets were winning the fake championships, if the Olympics wants to go back to fake championships, then the real deal title will stay with Canada indefinitely, which, fine by me.StCapps wrote:I don't know about you, but waiting forever for the next title shot, whenever that happens to be, that's lame as fuck. It's been four years ieady, I'm sick of waiting.Smitty-48 wrote:The people who are really getting screwed here is Team Sweden and Team USA, Team Canada is the undisputed best on best Olympic Champions, back to back, it's just a lost opportunity for the Americans and/or the Swedes to get a shot at the title, if it's not best on best, it's a fake championship, nobody will get the title away from Canada, unless and until the NHL players are back, which, fine by me, no tickey, no laundry, no NHL players, no title shot.

In terms of revenue generated, the only non American sport which is ahead of the NHL, is the English Premiership, but other than that, the NHL is bigger than every other Eurosports league, including Formula One.Montegriffo wrote:

Cricket doesn't even make the list.

Hockey is growing, but I don't see how it can possibly displace soccer and cricket. It's not a poor person's sport like the top two. Also, soccer is closer to the universal human game of kicking a ball around a field. It's more fundamental, even if they overlayed a lot of rules upon it.
The thing is, just because a sport is popular with billions of poor people doesn't make it good or profitable.

Re: Winter Olympics - 2018 Edition
So you'd rather not have any tournament where the best of the best play on their national teams, for fifty years, just to stick it to the Olympics? Not me. If they bring back the Canada Cup, then I get it, without the Canada Cup, or it's equivalent, during those fifty years, then fuck that noise.Smitty-48 wrote:Because other than holding the title, I don't give a rats ass about the Olympics.StCapps wrote:How is that fine by you?

Your claim is that it's the world's top sport, so you should probably have the world's support for that assertion. LOL... don't go StA on me, here.StCapps wrote:Worldwide popularity? No it's fine. You carry on playing your minority sports if that's the only way you can become ''world champions'' meanwhile Britain will carry on playing the sports the whole world plays and when we call ourselves ''world champions'' we will do it without irony.
