I have a 346 XP, I've had it for close to 10 years, and I cut no less than 6 cords of pine, fir and larch with it every year. It came with a 16" bar, but I upgraded to a 20" bar and it had enough power to run it just fine. For people new to chainsaws, go with a lighter smaller saw until you get some experience. I'm sure YouTube has a bunch of video on safe use. Be damn careful with them, that chain is moving at almost 10,000 RPMs and is designed to remove material. I have a 4 inch scar on my right leg from a Stihl 044 Magnum when I was 21. Kevlar chaps are not a bad choice, definitely eye pro and ear pro.

Learning to sharpen a chainsaw takes some time. You want every tooth sharpened as close to the same as possible or your saw with cut curves. You want a nice square chip the width of the chain as sawdust. It's a tool most anyone can run, but also a tool that requires enough skill to do it right requires a professional that does one thing.

Go to Craigslist and pick up grandma's. I'm not even kidding. I did that once for my grandmother in law as a birthday present and she was floored when she recognized the make. I got them for like fifteen bucks.
