I wonder how Reynolds would feel about your post if he were to read it today, on the evening of Pournelle's passing.Smitty-48 wrote:Sorry you lost your Jerry, dude, but Alastair Reynolds is better.Speaker to Animals wrote:Best SF author.

Everybody is entitled to favor one author over another. Reynolds is a great author too. Completely different kinds of works, though. I prefer Pournelle because he focused so much on politics and sociology built atop a solid military SF foundation.

Just call em' like I see em', Hoss, this is the Show, it's over the plate or it ain't, you get no strikes for sympathy.Fife wrote:I wonder how Reynolds would feel about your post if he were to read it today, on the evening of Pournelle's passing.Smitty-48 wrote:Sorry you lost your Jerry, dude, but Alastair Reynolds is better.Speaker to Animals wrote:Best SF author.

Reynolds is your objective end state, you want interstellar, Reynolds is the closest to the real deal. And he gives you full spectrum, from Blue Remembered Earth, all the way to House of Suns. Intersystem to the Andromeda Galaxy.Speaker to Animals wrote:Smitty-48 wrote:Sorry you lost your Jerry, dude, but Alastair Reynolds is better.Speaker to Animals wrote:Best SF author.

Whatevs, I'd prolly put Joe Carter in the HOF tonight if I had the power; and if I could send any more of Oklahoma's excess talent up to Ontario, current-year, well, I'd be Okie-dokie with that too.

Meh, I'm not big on HOF, in any sport, it's all been diluted by sympathy picks, it's become meaningless, hang around long enough, and they'll throw you a bone.Fife wrote:Whatevs, I'd prolly put Joe Carter in the HOF tonight if I had the power; and if I could send any more of Oklahoma's excess talent up to Ontario. current-year, well, I'd be Okie-dokie with that too.
